The Federal Government has declared Wednesday
May 27, and Thursday May 28, 2026 as public holidays to celebrate 2026
Eid-el-Kabir.
The announcement was made by the Minister of
Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Monday through the
ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the government’s
declaration underscores its respect for the faith and spiritual traditions of
millions of Nigerian Muslims observing the festival alongside the global
Islamic community.
In his message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated
Muslim faithful in Nigeria and abroad on this occasion, describing Eid-ul-Adha
as a festival of profound spiritual importance centered on sacrifice, obedience
to God, and compassion for others.
He encouraged Nigerians to use the holiday
period for prayer and reflection, seeking divine guidance for the nation’s
peace, security, and progress.
“The Federal Government calls on all
Nigerians to observe this period with prayer and sober reflection, praying for
divine guidance as the country strives for peace, security, and prosperity for
all,” the statement said.
The minister also urged citizens to embrace
the values of brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the
celebrations.
