A Legal Officer in Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Oluwafunmi Olaifa has charged staff of the State Ministry of Works to adopt effective conflict management strategies in the workplace to boost productivity and achieve optimal results.
Olaifa gave the charge in Ado Ekiti while delivering a lecture at the monthly training programme of the Ministry of Works.
The Legal practitioner identified common causes of conflict among workplace stakeholders to include tight project deadlines, funding challenges, poor communication, departmental differences, disagreements with contractors, workload pressures and personality clashes.
She emphasised the importance of timely clarification, regular feedback, collaboration, compromise and accommodation in resolving disputes, noting that effective communication remains key to preventing misunderstandings in the workplace.
Olaifa also stressed the need for proper investigation of issues, urging parties involved in conflicts to engage in dialogue with sincerity and openness while working towards mutually beneficial solutions.
According to her, proper documentation, professionalism and the avoidance of undue political interference are essential for effective conflict management.
She described conflict as inevitable but noted that when properly managed, it could serve as a critical tool for improved performance and enhanced service delivery.
In his remarks, the Director of Administration and Supplies in the ministry, Mr. Tunji Folorunso, commended the resource person for her insightful presentation and practical approach to the subject.
Other dignitaries at the lecture included the Director of Press, Mr. Adeniyi Adekunle; Director of Civil Engineering, Engr. Bamidele Oke; and Director of Mechanical Engineering, Engr. Amos Ilesanmi, alongside other directors and over 100 members of staff of the ministry.
