As part of concerted efforts to improve access to quality healthcare, Rotary Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health Action Group in collaboration with the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and the State Primary Health Care Development Agency has held a joint medical outreach across three local government areas of Ado, Ijero, and Irepodun/Ifelodun in Ekiti State.
Speaking at the event in Ado-Ekiti, the Rotary Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health representative, Mr Ayo-Maria Olofinkua , said the initiative aims to expand access to life-saving services and address rising maternal and child health challenges.
Mr Olofinkua added that the outreach also seeks to bring health services closer to communities and build sustainable systems that can function even in the absence of partners.
The Rotary representative expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of beneficiaries and urged residents to take advantage of such programs to improve their health and wellbeing.
"This phase of the outreach reached five communities: Odo-Ado, Eminrin, and Adere in Ado-Ekiti; Are-Ekiti; and Ipoti-Ekiti. The locations were chosen to sensitize stakeholders and residents on practical steps to address local health challenges.He noted
Speaking also at the Are-Ekiti outreach, the Rotary Action Group for Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health Officer, Mrs Omolara Asonibare said the program reflects Rotary’s vision that no pregnant woman or child should die from preventable causes, and that every family should live a healthy life.
Mrs. Asonibare disclosed that similar engagements are currently ongoing in four states including Ekiti, FCT, Gombe, and Nasarawa under the PoS project "Together for a Healthy Family in Nigeria" being implemented under the leadership of Country Director and National Coordinator, Prof. Emmanuel Lufadeju.
She explained that the free outreach provided comprehensive services, including medical consultations, check-ups, treatment, family planning services, and essential drugs.
"Beneficiaries were attended to by skilled healthcare workers, including nurses, midwives, CHOs, community health extension workers (CHEWs), laboratory technicians, pharmacy technicians, medical records technicians, and the social mobilization officer. Rotarians from the Rotary Club" also graced the activities ,She stated.
People came out massively to accessed care,consulted and provided with appropriate medications and birthing kits were given to expectant mothers from 7 months and above.
Ekiti State Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs. Bukola Adekemi, said the state government has taken deliberate steps to improve residents’ health and wellbeing.
Mrs Adekemi noted that the government has made family planning commodities and services available, provided free malaria testing and treatment, and continues to promote healthy living.
The Family Planning Coordinator urged residents to use public health facilities, which she said have been equipped and upgraded by the current administration to improve healthcare outcomes.
She commended Rotary International for the partnership, and support over the past years, saying the project has significantly improve health outcomes in the state.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mr. Kolawole Olowoyo, Chairman of the Ward Development Committee for the Primary Health Centre in Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti, thanked the organizers, noting that the initiative would greatly improve the health and wellbeing of his community.
