..as Governor secures 319,224 votes to break consecutive 2-terms jinx

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, winner of yesterday's gubernatorial election in the State.
Oyebanji who secured 319,224 votes also won in all the 16 local government areas of the State to get re-elected, breaking the jinx of straight two-terms since 1999.
He defeated candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and other political parties.
In her announcement, the Returning Officer, Professor Adenike Oladiji, declared that Oyebanji received 319,224 votes.
His closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the PDP, garnered 40,543 votes, while Ambassador Dare Bejide of the ADC secured 12,872 votes. The candidate of the Accord Party, Opeyemi Falegan, received 564 votes.
According to INEC, the total number of registered voters was 988,251 out if which only 384,940 were accredited to vote.
Across the 16 local government areas, a total of 382,109 votes were cast. Of these, 375,777 votes were declared valid, while 6,332 votes were rejected.
Oladiji, while announcing the results, stated that Biodun Oyebanji met the legal requirements and, having scored the highest number of valid votes, was duly declared the winner and elected as the Governor of Ekiti State.
