Ekiti State Governor ,Mr Biodun Oyebanji has inaugurated the Fifth Session of the Ekiti State Youth Parliament, charging members to demonstrate integrity, discipline and patriotism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Oyebanji, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Mr Olawale Olaleye at the inauguration held in the chambers of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, urged the newly inaugurated parliamentarians to serve as ambassadors of peace and responsible leadership.
The Governor said his administration remained committed to creating opportunities for young people and strengthening platforms that encourage youth participation in governance.
He urged the youth lawmakers to uphold democratic values, respect constituted authority and foster unity among young people regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences.
According to him, the parliamentarians should prioritise issues affecting youths, advocate practical solutions, and promote innovation, entrepreneurship and economic inclusion.
Oyebanji said that one of the objectives of his administration was to build a generation of responsible, innovative and visionary leaders capable of advancing the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria.
Earlier, the Speaker of the newly inaugurated Fifth Ekiti State Youth Parliament, Mr Tijesu Babatunde Daniel, expressed appreciation to the governor for his commitment to youth development and investment in the future of the state.
Babatunde said young people were not merely leaders of tomorrow but active partners in governance today.
He commended the State Government for ongoing infrastructural development, improved attention to education and efforts aimed at creating opportunities for youths across the state.
The Speaker of the Youth Parliament pledged to discharge his duties with integrity, fairness, diligence and transparency.
He also assured that members of the parliament would work towards advancing the interests of young people and contributing meaningfully to the state's development.
In a goodwill message, the State Commissioner for Information, Rt.Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, congratulated the newly inaugurated members and urged them to build on the achievements of previous youth parliaments.
Olatunbosun expressed confidence in the ability of the members to make Ekiti youths proud and contribute positively to governance and development in the state.
Other dignitaries at the event included a member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, representing Ido/Osi Constuency 2 ,Hon Yomi Ayorinde ;the State Commissioner for Finance,Mr Akin Oyebode, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry,Mrs Lucia Bamisile;
the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Amb. Olu Ajayi Maxwell; the Legal Adviser in the Ministry of Youth Development, Barr. Ayobami Olowoyo-Richards and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Asiwaju Kasali Oluwafemi, amongst others.
The principal officers of the Fifth Assembly are: Tijesu Babatunde Daniel, Speaker; Oloruntimilehin Abosede Fortunate, Deputy Speaker; Ilesanmi Taiwo Paul, Leader; Olubunmi Vincent Oluwanifemi, Deputy Leader; Odetola Kehinde, Chief Whip; and Adeyeye Olamilekan, Deputy Chief Whip.
