The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Osun State Governor and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, winner of Saturday gubernatorial election in the Osun State.
Announcing the results on Sunday morning, the Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti said Adeleke garnered 511,067, while Oyebamiji of APC received 444,815. The
third-place candidate, Najeem Salaam of the ADC obtained 17,180 votes.
The
total valid votes counted were 985,079, with 20,721 ballots rejected,
bringing the total votes cast to 1,005,800. Out of 2,339,544 registered
voters, 1,010,684 were accredited, representing a turnout of 43.2%.
The Accord Party candidate emerged victorious by winning in 19 out of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs). His main opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victories in 11 LGAs.
The election saw participation from 15 political parties, though only the Accord Party and APC had significant impacts across the state.
Adeleke’s dominance was evident as he carried the majority of LGAs, including key strongholds such as Ede, Osogbo, Ilesa, and Iwo. Despite Oyebamiji’s wins in 11 LGAs, he was unable to match Adeleke’s substantial margins in the more populous urban areas.
The victory margin of 66,252 votes marks one of the widest in a competitive Osun governorship election in recent years.
